Role: Clinical Coder
Contract Length: 3 months with possible extension
Location: Initially on site to be given an overview, mandatory training for access, collect IT equipment etc but can be virtual after this point
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up to £136.36 per day
Spinwell is recruiting for a Clinical Coder for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CLINICAL CODER
- To extract and code all inpatient Finished Consultant Episodes (FCE’s) using 3M’s Medicode encoder system which incorporates ‘International Classification of Diseases’ version 10 (ICD10) and ‘Office of Population Census and Surveys’ version 4 (OPCS4) coding manuals applying national rules and conventions
- To ensure all FCE’s are completed and data input by monthly Performance Management (Trust) deadlines
- To gain a continuing understanding of HRG’s and Financial Flows so as to ensure that the Clinical Coding process delivers good quality, timely data
- To participate in departmental audit programme through both:
- Having own work audited to ensure expertise maintained in all areas
- By data validating specific coding issues
- To raise coding or data issues with the management team and work to resolve
- To have output monitored to ensure full contribution to departmental workload
- To both participate in and support the departmental training programme:
- By attending internal training programmes
- Through mentoring and sharing of knowledge with peers and more junior codes
- To communicate and liaise effectively with clinicians and other healthcare professionals at all levels of queries with varying levels of complexity, relating to clinical information
- To communicate and liaise effectively with medical secretaries, health records personnel and ward personnel regarding access to case notes
- To visit designated wards on a rota basis, throughout the month, checking case notes against discharge documentation
- To visit wards, at month end, to extract diagnostic and procedural information from current inpatients case notes to clear outstanding FCE’s
- To ensure adherence to policies and procedures established for Clinical Coding
- To undertake other tasks as required by the management team
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE CLINICAL CODER
- To have operating knowledge of PAS and all policies associated with PAS
- To be proficient in the use of all Trust clinical systems and how they are utilised for coding purposes
- To have operating knowledge of Medicode encoding system
- To be proficient in using Microsoft Office and departmental S-Drive
- To be proficient in the use of reporting tools to include, Business Objects
- To have demonstrable communication and customer skills
