Brief Team Description (Team structure etc.)

  • The department supplies General Munitions to all services and is a vital link to the success of military operations anywhere in the world.
  • The Department manages over 600 products and maintains over 150 Safety and Environmental Cases throughout the Concept, Assessment, Development, Manufacture, In-Service and Disposal (CADMID) phases.
  • There are approximately 120 people in the team (military & civilian staff) comprising ammunition technical experts, engineers, safety and environmental managers, project managers, specialist stock/capability managers, business, commercial and finance staff.

2. Tasks and Deliverables

  • Development of Safety Cases to support Outline Business Case (OBC) and Full Business Case (FBC) as part of ammunition procurement activity.
  • Safety and Environment Case Report(s) (SECR) for each project milestone stage i.e. OBC / FBC.
  • Review and update of existing Safety Cases to support in-service ammunition natures through routine scheduled review or as the result of an event e.g. change in design, use, lifecycle stage etc.
  • SECRs for each ammunition nature according to schedule or event.
  • Development of a tailored version of the DGM Generic Safety and Environmental Management Plan(s) (SEMP) as part of ammunition procurement activity – Project SEMP.
  • Generation of initial Hazard Identification and Hazard Log and refinement as data becomes available as part of ammunition procurement activity
  • Review and update of identified hazards and associated Hazard Log to support routine scheduled review or as a result of an event driven requirement
  • Supporting the developing the certification plan and engaging with the Regulator – Certification of the OME.
  • Support Project Safety and Environmental Panel (PSEP) and OME Safety Review Panel (OSRP) submissions to attain OME Assurance Statement (OAS)

3. Essential Experience/Skills Requirement

  • Experienced in Safety Management within defence.
  • Experienced in writing Safety and Environmental Case Reports.
  • Experienced in generating safety arguments.
  • Experienced in hazard identification and accident risk analysis and classification.
  • Incorporated Engineer or equivalent demonstrable experience.
  • Ordnance Munitions and Explosives (OME)

4. Desired Experience/Skills Requirement

  • Knowledge and understanding of OME.
  • Risk Management.
  • Awareness of Commercial and Project Management in Procurement.
