Spinwell is recruiting for a Highway Maintenance Officer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE OFFICER
To oversee and manage highway maintenance works to ensure that the highway network is managed and maintained to a safe standard for the benefit of our communities. By implementing reactive, preventative, and cyclical maintenance schemes, the Highway Maintenance Officer will contribute to the effective management of Cambridgeshire’s highway network, inclusive of footways, cycle routes, carriageways, and public rights of way.
To work closely with local communities to ensure that the County Council maintains the highway to a standard which aligns with local aspirations and needs and by keeping communities and customers informed of our works, the Highway Maintenance Officer will contribute to achieving a high level of customer satisfaction.
By reacting to highway incidents (e.g., flooding or damage caused by traffic collisions), the Highway Maintenance Officer plays a vital role as the Council’s front-line representative on the network.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE HIGHWAY MAINTENANCE OFFICER
- A Levels/NVQ Level 3 or equivalent
- HND or equivalent in Civil Engineering, Highways or Construction
- In depth knowledge of the structures, pressures and priorities of local government.
- Highway guidance & standard Knowledge of highway design, construction, maintenance and drainage.
- Legislation Awareness of relevant highway legislation (e.g., Highways Act 1980, New Roads & Street Works Act 1991, Road Traffic Act 1988).
- Excellent set of interpersonal and communications skills.
- Ability to prioritise competing demands in an organised and structured manner.
- Problem solving Ability to investigate issues, identify and implement solution.
- IT Comprehensive knowledge of and ability to use IT applications including Microsoft Word, Excel, Team and email.
- Construction Experience working in highway or construction sectors.
- Experience working autonomously to meet set goals and outcomes.
