Pay Rate to Intermediary: £20 – £30 per hour


Spinwell is recruiting for a Conservation Officer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE CONSERVATION OFFICER

Under the supervision of the Principal Conservation Officer to assist in securing the delivery of the statutory functions in respect of the conservation of the historic built environment for both Councils. Specifically the post holder will be required to provide advice on key conservation matters and listed buildings to members of both councils, officers and the general public.

The postholder will be expected to contribute to proposals for conservation work including management and enhancement schemes, and provide an input into the corresponding policy activities of the section.  In addition, the postholder will be expected to give conservation advice on planning applications including conservation areas, listed buildings and locally listed buildings.

The post also carries a requirement to assist in the appraisal of all existing conservation areas leading to the publication of a specific management plans, as well as assisting in the designation of any new conservation areas.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE CONSERVATION OFFICER

  • Relevant post graduate experience in conservation or heritage related field
  • Degree in Town and Country Planning, Architecture, Building Surveying or Heritage related subject
  • Knowledge of and ability to communicate the key aspects of preserving and enhancing historic buildings and conservation areas, to members of the public, developers, agents and Councillors
  • Ability to write clear and concise reports
  • Ability to present the Council’s case at appeals and Examinations
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines
  • Ability to work in a team and contribute positively to its development
  • Ability to work with a minimum of supervision and use initiative
  • Able to travel to all parts of both council areas
  • Willing to undertake occasional evening and weekend work
