Spinwell is recruiting for a Disposals Operator for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE DISPOSALS OPERATOR
- Follow site risk assessments, SSOWs, and all H&S policies; wear mandated PPE; immediately report hazards, incidents, and near-misses.
- Collect, stage, and transfer obsolete equipment from multiple DES Deca areas to designated consolidation points and waste streams (e.g., WEEE, scrap metal, batteries, oils/fluids, hazardous materials, confidential destruction bins).
- Verify item identity; remove/retain identification in line with policy; segregate by material and hazard class; label containers/pallets to site standards.
- Complete movement logs, tally sheets, and any site disposal documentation; support data entry into local tracking spreadsheets and/or enterprise systems (e.g., NEXUS LN/MJDI/JAMES where required).
- Work from daily/weekly pick or move lists; update the Material Governance Support Lead on progress, discrepancies, and constraints.
- Flag mismatches between physical items and records; quarantine uncertain or unsafe items; assist with investigations and stock adjustments as directed.
- Prepare loads for collection (weigh, band, wrap, secure, and stage); escort contracted collection providers as required; obtain signatures/notes on collection documents.
- Maintain tidy, compliant consolidation areas; ensure spill kits and containers are serviceable and correctly used.
- Complete mandatory training (H&S, manual handling, MHE, environmental/waste handling). Support site audits, stock takes, and visiting auditors.
- Suggest practical improvements to routes, staging, and container utilisation to reduce handling and improve safety/compliance.
- Supporting wider Material Accounts tasks when required.
- Frequent standing, walking, lifting and carrying (within safe limits and using aids).
- Regular use of PPE (e.g., safety boots, gloves, hi-vis; task-specific protection).
- Use of MHE (pallet trucks/trolleys; potential forklift if licensed).
- Ability to know when decisions need to be sanctioned by the Material Support Lead.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE DISPOSALS OPERATOR JOB
- Proven experience in a warehouse, logistics, facilities, or engineering support environment involving manual handling and material movements.
- Working knowledge of safe lifting/handling and use of MHE (e.g., pallet trucks, trolleys; forklift licence desirable).
- Ability to read and follow pick/move lists, SOPs, and risk assessments, strong attention to detail for segregation and labelling.
- Basic IT literacy (email, spreadsheets/data entry). Familiarity with NEXUS LN/MJDI/JAMES advantageous (training will be provided).
- Clear communication skills and a collaborative approach with workshops, stores, and governance teams.
- FLT would be ideal not essential
