Spinwell is recruiting for a Technical Officer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE TECHNICAL OFFICER
To assist with the operation of the council’s responsive repairs service which exists to deliver a high standard of service to tenants, fulfilling this role within the framework of service objectives, the Council’s corporate objectives and policies and any legal requirements
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE TECHNICAL OFFICER
- Building or surveying qualifications or equivalent with a proven thorough knowledge of building maintenance with the ability to specify concisely remedial action.
- To be educated to GCSE Maths and English A-C or equivalent
- Competent in the use of I.T packages, including word, excel and outlook
- Ability to work within a team.
- Knowledge of current good practice in the building Industry and relevant Health and Safety issues.
- Knowledge of aids and adaptations for disabled people.
- Knowledge of building regulations.
- Knowledge of Housing, Health and Safety and preferably disability legislation.
- Knowledge of asbestos regulations, control and actions.
- Ability to deal with a wide range of technical issues and contribute within a team of Housing Officers covering different aspects of work.
- Ability to deal with people in challenging situations and empathy towards their needs.
- Good written and verbal communication skills.
- Computer literate – competent in the use of all Microsoft packages including word, excel (including setting up spreadsheets), outlook and preferably project.
- Ability to give clear and concise advice.
- Ability to keep accurate records and to compile statistics.
- Understanding and commitment to equality issues including understanding of disability issues and issues experienced by disadvantaged people.
- Ability to compile and maintain accurate casework
- Willingness and flexibility to work outside normal hours, as necessary.
- Have a current driving licence and use of a car or other effective transport arrangements as travel throughout Brentwood is required.
- Subject to a satisfactory Criminal Records Bureau check given the nature of the post.
