Spinwell is recruiting for a Mechanical Craftsperson for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE MECHANICAL CRAFTSPERSON
- Understand, diagnose and repair faults in electrical or mechanical engineering plant and equipment, to deal with new situations as they arise. Re-assemble, erect and install new work.
- Understand the workings of all non-specialist and specialist electrical or mechanical systems in Addenbrooke’s Hospital and associated properties. Competently deal with new or unusual complex situations as they arise.
- Able to work in isolation or as part of a team to complete tasks within agreed timescales. Able to work autonomously across the trust sites, ensuring patient, public and staff safety is paramount.
- Participate in essential training required to ensure the trust is compliant with statutory regulations. Participate in personal development and on-going learning.
- Provide and receive complex information regarding technical issues and safety requirements to various groups, such as staff, customers and contractors.
- To liaise with engineering managerial staff regarding plant or equipment failures and to request the supply of goods and/or services as necessary.
- Undertake essential repair works and general maintenance activities at the request of the Engineering Supervisor.
- Following suitable site training, be able to cover for Shift Technicians in times of sickness or annual leave.
- Carry out planned preventative maintenance inspections and commissioning tests in accordance with Maintenance Manuals and Trust procedures. This includes the planning and organisation of complex activities such as shutdowns and interruptions to power supplies or service. Be able to physically carry out heavy repairs such as moving and handling heavy pumps, motors and equipment.
- Follows detailed engineering drawings and specifications. Uses all relevant tools and equipment, including specialist testing instruments within safety guidelines as necessary for the completion of works.
- Regularly undertake R&D activities such as condition surveys and acceptance testing of new equipment.
- Undertake shift cover as appropriate within the Incinerator / Boilerhouse
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE MECHANICAL CRAFTSPERSON
- BTEC HNC / HND / Approved Apprenticeship, City and Guilds or NVQ III Technicians Certificate or equivalent qualification in relevant topic
- Understand and qualified to work on Pressure systems
- Able to make workload assessments and allocation
- Experience of working in an industrial environment
- Electrical / Mechanical Services Systems Maintenance
- Comprehensive post apprenticeship experience in a Hospital maintenance environment
- Experience of working with Electrical or Mechanical systems
- Able to evaluate and solve problems in situ
- Expertise and a full understanding of
- Electrical or Mechanical Services and
- Electrical Control Systems
- Full understanding of UPS, IPS and generator standby power systems
- Quality Electrical or Mechanical work; fault finding, installation and maintenance administration duties such as updating worksheets / job tickets, data input / completion of PPM worksheets
- Ability to communicate verbally, by phone and in writing to Senior Management and clinical users throughout the Trust Capable of standing in for Supervisor to prioritise work to the rest of the team and to issue job tickets when required
- Able to work as part of a team or in isolation
