Spinwell is recruiting for a EO Paralegal for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE EO PARALEGAL

  • Provide a competent and well trusted legal support function.
  • Work closely with solicitors to progress a complex caseload.
  • Manage and support all aspects of case preparation and management ensuring strict adherence to legal deadlines.
  • Organise large volumes of material, identify missing documents, prioritise tasks and effectively communicate and share intelligence gathered with interested parties.
  • Conduct legal research.
  • Arrange and attend case conferences.
  • Attend Court and at Tribunals.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE EO PARALEGAL

  • Demonstrate the ability to think critically and assist on legal matters under the supervision of lawyers, showcasing a high interest in the subject matter and willingness to learn.
  • Maintain an adequate and up-to-date understanding of relevant law, policy and practice.
  • Find, analyse and assess documents to extract relevant legal information.
  • Apply legal principles to factual issues, so as to produce a solution which best addresses a client's needs and reflects the client's commercial, personal or reputational circumstances.
  • Draft documents which are legally effective and accurately reflect the client's instructions.
  • Have an eye for detail, accuracy and uphold confidentiality under all circumstances.
  • Act honestly and with integrity, in accordance with legal and regulatory requirement, including as appropriate SRA Standards and Regulations, Bar Standards or Lexcel Standards.
  • Recognise ethical issues and exercise effective judgment to address them.
  • Understand and apply the ethical concepts which govern the role and behaviours of a paralegal.
  • Identify the relevant SRA principles and rules of professional conduct and follow them.
  • Resist pressure to condone, ignore or commit unethical behaviour.
  • Communicate in a straightforward, honest, purposeful and engaging manner choosing appropriate styles and methods to maximise understanding and impact.
  • Present a reasoned argument in a clear, logical, succinct and persuasive way, avoiding using legalese as much as possible.
  • Express ideas and questions confidently, clearly and with respect for others and listen to and value different ideas, views and ways of working, responding constructively and objectively to comments and questions.
  • Handle challenging conversations with confidence and sensitivity.
  • Understand and respond effectively to clients’ particular needs, objectives, priorities and constraints.
  • Forge strong and successful relationships with colleagues and clients, including building efficient professional relationships with a range of contacts outside own team and identify opportunities to share knowledge, information and learning.
  • Invest time to develop a common focus, genuine positive team spirit where colleagues feel valued and support one another, including changing ways of working to aid cooperation within and between teams in order to achieve results.
  • Contribute to an inclusive working environment where all opinions and challenges are listened to and respected and all individual needs are taken into account.
  • Ensure it is clear that bullying, harassment and discrimination are unacceptable.
  • Offer support and help to colleagues when in need, including consideration of your own and their wellbeing.

  • Demonstrate an understanding of the commercial, organisational and financial context in which both department and the client operates.
  • Keep up to date with the issues that affect your work area and clients.
  • Take a keen interest in expanding knowledge in areas related to your work.
  • Some knowledge of the legal issues and context in which client operates and a demonstrable interest in working on legal matters.
  • Some form of legal education and/or experience/training of working in a legal, regulatory or similar environment.
  • Highly motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to deliver successfully in a pressurised environment.
  • Ability to work as part of an effective team on ad-hoc tasks and projects.
  • Highly organised with good time management skills and the ability to juggle multiple demands and prioritise workloads.
  • Ability to critically analyse a range of evidence and options and make an appropriate recommendation.
  • Proficiency with Adobe, Excel, Word, Outlook and where appropriate Google Docs.
