Spinwell is recruiting for a Solutions Architecture for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SOLUTIONS ARCHITECTURE

This role will support the Senior Architect (aka Chief Technical Architect) to provide Enterprise design and support expertise for a range of ICT Projects and the overall client Architecture

This role is vital to ensure the client infrastructure, systems and services are built, designed and architected to ensure that they are secure and efficient in use.

This role requires a flexible working approach and be self-motivated to help ensure that the various environments are well architected and documented.

The role holder may be required to travel to sites around the UK as appropriate

The role is multi-disciplinary and involves taking full responsibility & ownership for the engineering delivery across multiple projects/programmes, balancing competing demands as they arise whilst maintaining positive and responsive customer relationships. The principal skills and core competences required to succeed in the role are as follows:

  • Solution/Application design and architecture skills – The role involves being responsible for composing the detailed technical design of software solutions in the face of requirement ambiguity and competing/conflicting demands from various stakeholders. Success hinges on being able to interpret the underlying ask form the business, make workable technical proposals that align with and satisfy all of these demands and fit within the constraints of the environment (time, resource skills, cost and security/technology strategy constraints), and then effectively communicate those proposals to the various stakeholders at all levels. Once the design and governance process have been successfully navigated, the candidate will then be expected to take ownership of composing the implementation plan and build estimates which in turn underpin the project delivery plan before taking the delivery into its implementation phase.

     

  • Expert and extensive hands-on software development skills – The candidate will be expected own and lead the software development process across all of the project deliveries that they work upon, which will mean not only taking on significant aspects of the software development directly themselves, but also managing, coordinating and quality assuring the work of the development teams that is working under them. The individual will then will be responsible for ensuring that the development work is proceeding to plan, and effectively communicating progress to the project managers, identifying issues and their solutions as they arise. The core technical skillset required include (as a minimum); expertise in .NET Core, Blazor & ASP.NET, core relational database technologies (MSSQL, PostGres), familiarity with common cloud services (AWS, Azure) and some familiarity with NoSQL databases (Elastic). Good all round familiarity with Linux, virtualisation technologies and networking is also required.

     

  • Customer relationship management & People Management skills – In addition to the ‘hard’ technical skills required, as the primary technical contact representing each of the deliveries they are working across, the candidate will be require excellent customer relationship management and people management skills to ensure that the relationships that surround the delivery stay in ‘positive territory’ throughout and the reputation of the ICT delivery organisation is maintained and protected.

 

 

Key Tasks

The post holder will be required to do the following:

  • Document current “As-Is” and future “To-Be” designs for projects.
  • Design solutions
  • Create Architecture diagrams and data sets to help communicate the changes occurring across client.
  • Identify technical experiments to validate design decisions.
  • Work across projects and with other architects to ensure that all systems align to the Strategic vision and any technical debt identified.
  • Ensure that any architectural dependencies between projects are understood, documented and accepted.

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SOLUTIONS ARCHITECTURE

  • Experience and knowledge of the Government Security Classifications levels and an understanding of the Cabinet Office Security Policy Framework
  • Experience of designing system via Architectural Frameworks especially TOGAF
  • Understanding of ITIL and Agile methodologies.
  • Experience in writing Design Documentation suitable for accreditation at up to IL5
  • Experience of working with Accreditor to ensure the design meets the needs of the security standards being applied for IL5
  • Able to demonstrate Expert knowledge in the design and build of resilient designs
  • Competence in a wide range of the following areas
    • Expertise of designing a Microsoft Windows environment with a significant combination of the following key components:
      • Windows Server
      • Microsoft SQL server
      • Active Directory
      • GPO
      • High Availability services
      • Windows desktop / VDI
      • Certificates and PKI design
      • RSA Tokens
    • Expertise of designing a network infrastructure with a significant combination of the following key components:
      • Cisco Routing / Switches
      • TCP/IP
      • Network Services (DNS/DHCP/NTP)
      • Intrusion protection / Detection.
  • Expertise of designing solutions hosted on AWS including their Well Architected Framework and Landing Zones (experience of PALZ is a bonus)
  • Expertise of designing and working with AzureAD and Office 365 Services
  • Expertise of designing a Linux environment within a larger Windows environment.
  • Expertise of VMware Virtualisation
  • Expertise of designing and developing software solutions using some of the following technologies
    • .NET (VB, C#, ASP.NET, .NET CORE)
    • MVC Framework
    • Python
    • JavaScript (REACT, Bootstrap Frameworks)
    • Database design
    • SQL / SQL Server
    • NoSQL technologies e.g. MongoDB, Hadoop, etc.
  • Expertise of documenting business processes using BPMN (or similar frameworks)
  • Understanding of Waterfall and Agile project methodologies.
  • Experienced in effectively transferring knowledge and skills to junior staff
  • The role holder must be eligible for DV (STRAP) vetting clearance.
