About the Role

A premier resources company is seeking a hands-on HR Manager to build and lead the full HR function for a major gold mine restart operation. Based in Brisbane with regular travel to PNG, you will spearhead workforce mobilization, industrial relations, and localized compliance to drive the project from development into steady-state operations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Workforce Strategy & Mobilization: Design organizational structures and manage end-to-end recruitment and flight/rotation logistics for both expat and national workforces.
  • Industrial & Employee Relations: Oversee the PNG industrial relations strategy, drafting localized policies and navigating community, landowner, and union expectations.
  • Compliance & Governance: Ensure 100% compliance with PNG Labour Laws and project-specific mine operating agreements.
  • Performance & Training: Establish a safety-first, high-performance culture; oversee site inductions, technical competency training (TVET), and KPI frameworks.
  • Systems & Reporting: Implement HR tracking software and deliver regular workforce analytics dashboards to the executive team.

Key Requirements

  • 10+ years of HR experience, ideally within mining, oil & gas, or heavy infrastructure project environments.
  • Proven track record building an HR function from the ground up, including greenfield or mine restart operations.
  • Developing jurisdiction experience (highly preferred), with a strong understanding of complex logistics and localized community dynamics.
  • Tertiary qualification in Human Resources, Business, or a related field.
  • Resilience, commercial acumen, and the flexibility to travel regularly to remote overseas sites.
