Spinwell is recruiting for a Commercial Waste Sales Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE COMMERCIAL WASTE SALES MANAGER
A Commercial Waste Sales Officer's primary responsibilities are to develop commercial waste sales and consistently increase the financial turnover of the commercial portfolio. Commercial Sales Officers are responsible for developing sales leads within their area of responsibility, establishing positive relationships with local businesses and ensuring that Hackney's Commercial Waste Service gets the opportunity to provide services that would otherwise go to our competitors. The role involves assessing business needs and advising on the best waste management solutions, including recycling and bringing in new businesses. This includes upgrades of existing contracts.
Sales officers will ensure that they maintain contact with existing customers, either through email or written communication or by visiting the business premises in person.
They will ensure that existing service level agreements are monitored and that where necessary any overproduction of waste is brought to the attention of businesses. A key responsibility is to advise business owners of their responsibilities in relation to storage, disposal and presentation of commercial waste and to ensure that the business understands the need to keep us advised of any changes to both the type and the amount of waste they generate. The Commercial Waste Sales Manager will report to and work closely with the Commercial Sales & Account Manager keeping him/her up to date with daily sales and progress of sales targets set.
The Commercial Waste Sales Manager will plan and manage their working day (hours) to ensure they operate efficiently and maximise sales opportunities. The post holder will focus their efforts on following up on sales leads and cold calling businesses located close to existing businesses and securing sales. The role is about developing the commercial portfolio by increasing sales and the presence of Hackney and/or the Local Authority Trading Company to ensure a self perpetuating cycle of sales.
In addition to sales, the role involves the completion of all relevant paperwork and information capture ensuring it is added to the system and that the work is scheduled to ensure collections take place as required. This includes briefing operational managers and also the waste collection teams on new and existing businesses when required.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE COMMERCIAL WASTE SALES MANAGER
- A results driven sales representative, highly motivated with excellent interpersonal skills to actively seek out and encourage customer uptake of Hackney's commercial services.
- A salesperson who can present, promote and sell services using solid arguments to existing and prospective customers.
- An ambitious, hard-working salesperson with a proven track record of making sales and driving up turnover and profitability.
- A salesperson with the ability to turn sales conversations from technical pitches of the range of services we offer and the benefits they will bring to the customer, into realisable sales.
- The ability to find new target markets and to be able to successfully penetrate them and drive up sales.
- A time and sales orientated friendly salesperson with the ability to articulate service options available to potential customers.
- A good communicator with the ability to articulate the benefits of signing with Hackney as a commercial service provider.
- Strategic thinker, with the ability to build business relationships, leading to commercial sales.
- A good communicator with the ability to be clear, concise, engaging and authentic.
- To have or be capable of having a good working knowledge of the Environmental Protection Act as it relates to the delivery of a Commercial Waste Service.
- To demonstrate a track record of setting objectives and standards for managing and supervising staff and operatives including expectations, timescales and establishing clear lines of responsibility.
- Ability to motivate and empower others to build effective team working.
- Ability to attract and develop and motivate an operational workforce and to deal swiftly and competently with poor behaviour, performance and standards.
- Able to demonstrate a track record/ability to strategically plan and deliver high quality customer focused service.
- Able to demonstrate the ability to devise strategies and translate them into realisable plans.
- To demonstrate an ability to manage financial and operational performance utilising key performance indicators as a tool.
- A requirement to have a personal and professional approach which generates credibility, respect and confidence amongst clients, colleagues and senior members of the organisation, the Council and other stakeholders.
- Ability to demonstrate highly developed communication and presentational skills.
- Ability to demonstrate a strong desire to succeed in delivering high quality services.
- Hold a full UK driving licence.
