Role: Head of Mining - Mine Restart
Location: Papua New Guinea
Spinwell Global are working with an Australian mining outfit Looking for a Head of Mining. This opportunity is a permanent, FIFO role in Papua New Guinea. We are seeking an experienced underground mining leader to direct and optimize safe narrow-vein operations, oversee contractors, and drive production targets.
THE ROLE
As the Head of Mining, you will provide strategic and operational direction to ensure mining activities are conducted safely, efficiently, and in accordance with approved mine plans. Reporting to the Operations Manager, you will be part of the Site Leadership Team and work closely with Geology, Technical Services, Maintenance, Processing, Safety, and Contractor Management teams.
Key Responsibilities:
- Safety & Compliance: Lead visible safety values, ensure compliance with PNG mining laws, and maintain the Mine Safety Management System.
- Operations & Planning: Direct underground mining operations—including mine development, production, ground support, and ventilation—to deliver approved targets safely and efficiently.
- Team Leadership: Mentor and build a high-performing team of Mining Superintendents, Shift Bosses, Supervisors, and Engineers.
- Contractor Management: Oversee mining contractors to ensure contractual obligations and safety standards are met.
- Financial Management: Manage departmental budgets, monitor operational expenditure, and identify cost-reduction opportunities.

REQUIREMENTS
- Degree in Mining Engineering or related discipline.
- Hold or be eligible to obtain a PNG Metalliferous Mine Manager's Certificate of Competency (CoC).
- Minimum 10 years of underground mining experience, including 5+ years in a senior leadership role (e.g., Mine Manager or Underground Manager).
- Demonstrated experience with underground production/development and narrow-vein operations.
- Proven experience managing multidisciplinary teams and contractors in remote FIFO environments.
