Spinwell is recruiting for a Senior Network Engineer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
- Lead by example and behave in line with the Police Code of Ethics ensuring that the force values and behavioural expectations are clearly understood and considered by managers, officers and staff in their decision making and actions; reinforcing and influencing them through all interactions and processes.
- Proactively manage the performance, attendance and wellbeing of police officers and police staff against the required standards to ensure they are dealt with and supported in accordance with the correct policies and procedures.

- Manage the force’s support on critical infrastructure including (but not limited to) the force’s network, national Airwave Tetra radio communication system, force’s ICCS system, voice and security infrastructure, leading the continuous monitoring of the network using sophisticated tools, analysing complex problems, taking and directing corrective action as required.
- Identify and implementing higher level changes to systems, ensuring feasibility, piloting and documenting to delivering successful implementation of complex network, voice, ICCS and security infrastructure solutions.
- Manage and support the applications and infrastructure to meet and set the customers expectations, SLA’s and performance targets through continual strategic technical refreshes and the development of an adoption and implementation plans for new technologies.
- Investigate complex problems and issues, utilising expert technical knowledge and when needed act as a point of escalation to identify root causes and where possible develop automated solutions by leading/participating in problem solving teams as a subject matter expert to provide guidance and prevent reoccurrence.
- To co-ordinate and control the effective and efficient design, delivery and implementation of Digital Infrastructure actives and major projects required to support and maintain; Force, regional and national IT systems, in support of the Force’s IT strategy and the Home Office’s national IT programme of requirements.
- Develop and audit system procedures, verifying that there are documented processes in place to effectively and efficiently support force critical operational IT systems and infrastructure.
- Maintain, support and develop the department’s quality policy by working to the documented procedures and adhere to the data protection principles.
- Lead and assist in the delivery of technical work packages under the overall direction and standards of the Digital Programme Manager and Connectivity Manager.
- Mentor team members to technically develop them and assist with multi-layered technical issues, advising on corrective actions as require, providing expert specialist advice and expertise to all areas of Digital Policing, the force and 3rd partner agencies and suppliers
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SENIOR NETWORK ENGINEER
- Experience of managing applications, systems or networks to meet SLA targets.
- Proven ability to support and manage an enterprise IT infrastructure in a large organisation with multiple site locations and thousands of users.
- Related degree or specialist networking qualification, or significant experience with relevant in house training.
- Detailed Knowledge of complex security issues surrounding large IT systems and infrastructure environments.
- Proven ability to lead, mentor and direct staff in relation to resolving complex technical issues.
- Has a full current UK/European Driving Licence or has the ability to travel for business purposes.
- Ability to pass vetting to SC level and NPPV3.
- Is prepared to participate in the departments callout rota.
- Ideally Cisco CCNP qualified
