Role: Project Manager REF 104547
Contract Length: Until end of Jan 2027
Location: Hybrid/Scotland - the candidate will be required to travel around Scottish sites, this could be 2/3 days per week so candidate needs to be based locally
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up £283.48 per day
Security Clearance: BPSS

 

Spinwell is recruiting for a Project Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE PROJECT MANAGER

  • Manage multiple small to medium-sized projects simultaneously.
  • Oversee project delivery from initiation through to completion.
  • Respond to operational incidents and emerging site risks.
  • Conduct regular site visits across Scotland (approximately 60% of time on site).
  • Assess mining subsidence issues and geotechnical risks.
  • Make initial site assessments and determine immediate actions required.
  • Engage framework contractors where urgent remediation or safety measures are needed.
  • Coordinate investigations, surveys, and specialist advice.
  • Cover for other team members and provide project/site briefings when necessary.
  • Manage project risks, stakeholder communications, and health & safety considerations.
  • Work closely with contractors, engineers, and operational teams.

    SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE PROJECT MANAGER

  • Project Management experience within:
    • Construction
    • Civil Engineering
    • Ground Engineering
    • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Incident management and reactive works experience.
  • Strong understanding of site-based risk assessment.
  • Health & Safety awareness in construction or engineering environments.
  • Experience visiting sites and making practical operational decisions.
  • Ability to manage multiple concurrent projects.

    Desirable

  • Exposure to NEC4 contracts (basic understanding is sufficient).
  • Experience relating to:
    • Coal mining environments
    • Mining subsidence
    • Ground movement risks
    • Geotechnical investigations
  • Knowledge of ground investigation works and remediation projects.

    Ideal Candidate Profile

    The ideal candidate is likely to come from:

  • Civil Engineering Project Management
  • Geotechnical Engineering
  • Ground Engineering
  • Infrastructure Construction
  • Mining or Quarrying Projects

Comfortable attending sites independently, identifying hazards and risks, arranging immediate mitigation measures, coordinating contractors, and turning site issues into structured project plans.
