Role: Senior Planning Officer REF 1741875
Contract Length: 3 month rolling contract
Location: Remote with work at various locations (Shrewsbury / Oswestry). Attendance at planning committees as relevant. At least 1 day per month at the Guildhall.
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: £45 per hour

 

Spinwell is recruiting for a Senior Planning Officer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER

  • Assessing planning and associated applications submitted to the Council with a focus on complex or major applications in accordance with national, local and Council policies; reporting, making recommendations and presenting to the Committees on these applications and dealing with any subsequent appeals that might arise from these decisions.
  • Providing planning advice in accordance with Council policy and to liaise with other services in order to provide an integrated development management service to applicants.
  • Liaising with all stakeholders and consultees to manage the delivery of complex or technical planning applications in accordance with adopted policies guidance, national and local performance measures.
  • Attending site liaison and other meetings as required and positively managing relationships with customers and other stakeholders particularly where issues are complex or wide ranging.
  • Respond to enquiries from service users and other stakeholders, dealing positively with agents, elected Members and the public.
  • Attendance at meetings outside of office hours will be expected occasionally.
  • The above duties are an illustrative outline and are not an exhaustive list. You will be expected to become involved in a range of work to enable the service to respond effectively to the changing requirements of the Council and changes affecting the workforce.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SENIOR PLANNING OFFICER

  • Degree or equivalent in Planning or a related discipline.
  • At least two years’ experience as a local authority Planning Officer (or equivalent role) dealing with a variety of applications and able to demonstrate a clear commitment to professional development.
  • A thorough understanding of planning legislation, policies, and guidance, the need to take into account, and give appropriate weight to all material considerations, and the ability to make clear and properly considered recommendations for all development management related matters.
  • Proven experience of the successful delivery of customer care in a complex environment.
  • MRTPI (relevant degree and probable post graduate degree)
  • Oral communication sufficient to establish and maintain effective problem-solving relationships with the public, partners, and other stakeholders as appropriate
  • Written skills in regard to correspondence which are sufficient to convey information in a clear concise and jargon free style.
  • IT skills sufficient to manipulate complex data and produce reports, where required.
  • A good understanding of working in a political environment.
  • An understanding and commitment to customer care.
  • Willingness to undertake further job-related training.
  • The post holder must have access to suitable means of transport as required for official duties and must maintain a full current driving licence.
  • Good interpersonal skills and an ability to actively listen.
  • Ability to work flexibly and to tight deadlines.
  • Ability to prioritise between competing demands.
  • Willing to work co-operatively with others.
