Role: Service Manager (Plastics Department)
Contract Length: Until the end of March
Location: Hybrid/East Grinstead - need to be onsite for a minimum of 3 days a week
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up to £36.50 per hour



Spinwell is recruiting for a Service Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SERVICE MANAGER

The Service Manager is a key management role and is responsible for the operational delivery of all aspects of the Business Unit. Key aims are:

  • To provide timely, efficient and effective operational service management support for the Surgical Business Unit, assisting the Clinical Director, Lead Clinicians and General Manager to ensure that these services are responsive, innovative and provided to the highest possible clinical and performance standards.
  • Take forward agreed projects to improve service delivery and patient experience in key areas.
  • Lead on ensuring that all performance/quality targets are met.
  • Problem solve as appropriate, and develop and implement lasting solutions in conjunction with clinical colleagues.
  • Line manage the administration team.

 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SERVICE MANAGER

  • Educated to relevant Degree level or equivalent
  • Post-graduate qualification in Health and/or Management, or able to demonstrate specialist knowledge within this field through practical experience
  • Evidence of continuing education and development
  • Experience of operational management at a senior level within a healthcare environment
  • Experience of putting together a business case and contributing to its implementation
  • Experience of successfully leading and implementing service improvement projects.
  • Experience of participating in clinical governance initiatives
  • Knowledge and awareness of issues affecting NHS acute hospitals
  • Understanding of project management techniques
  • Demonstrable ability to evaluate and improve service quality.
  • Ability to understand complex issues, problem solve and propose solutions
  • Well-developed leadership and influencing skills with the ability to enthuse, motivate and involve individuals and teams, and have them understand the Trust’s and your performance expectations;
  • Ability to analyse complex data to produce succinct information appropriate for its audience
  • Advanced Excel Spreadsheet skills
  • Used to producing analysis in numerical or graphical formats to a high standard
  • Excellent verbal and written communication and presentation skills suitable for a range of audiences, including chairing of meetings.
  • Advanced keyboard skills required
  • Ability to develop new ways of working
  • An effective completer / finisher
  • Demonstrates a commitment to the highest ethical and professional values and a belief in government funded healthcare
  • Able to take conscious steps to manage self under pressure – creating time for reflection and support for self and others
  • Able to absorb and deal constructively with criticism and seek support as necessary
  • Able to clarify key points from diverse and complex sets of information.

Additional Requirements:

  • The postholder is required to travel between to satellite sites and to regional meetings as required
  • The postholder requires high levels of concentration at all times, as they deal with unpredictable demands from a variety of sources
  • The postholder will be subject to frequent interruptions due to the operational nature of the role
  • The work is often unpredictable and the postholder may have to adapt to change in short time frames and be able to deliver outcomes
  • Exposure to staff management i.e. dealing with long term sickness, redeployment and redundancy, discipline and grievance, employment tribunals and difficult change management issues
  • May have to deal with staff and occasionally patients and their families who are angry / upset / tearful
  • Postholder has to be able to work successfully under pressure of time and resources
  • Combination of office and clinically based working environments with long periods of VDU usage
  • The postholder may occasionally come into contact with body fluids/stools/blood/saliva when discharging duties in clinical areas
