Spinwell is recruiting for a Scientific Expert for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.
RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE SCIENTIFIC EXPERT
- Deliver world-leading research that significantly enhances international scientific reputation and world-class status.
- Apply broad or deep scientific insight to a key area of science, contributing to setting the strategic direction and the research and development programme.
- Carry out innovative scientific research to enhance the capability and international reputation and deliver significant improvements to systems or products.
- Collaborate with equivalent specialists and provide scientific representation to promote the delivery and pull-through of research and to enhance scientific reputation.
- Share scientific knowledge and expertise across their programme to improve our scientific capability.
The Scientific Expert is responsible for:
- Deciding whether a substance is “capable of producing a psychoactive effect in a person who consumes it”;
- Attendance at case conferences and/or Court, in person or on the telephone, as required.
SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE SCIENTIFIC EXPERT
- Professional qualifications in clinical or in-vivo pharmacology or medicinal chemistry;
- Five years’ minimum postgraduate experience in the appropriate field.
- Current expertise and detailed knowledge in one or more of the following, or related fields:
- psychopharmacology;
- pharmacology and drug discovery research; and/or
- clinical/non-clinical pharmacology; and
- Current and detailed knowledge of, and practical experience in, in-vitro testing together with in-vivo pharmacology in the drugs arena;
- Skills in data interpretation from in-vitro pharmacology assays, both functional and binding;
- Ability to conduct basic and descriptive statistics tests and interpretation of in-vitro data and appreciation of the predictive value of such data.
- Client will provide information about the Psychoactive Substances Act, the specification for the in-vitro testing and the format of the data.
