Role: Environmental Health Officer
Contract Length: 3 months
Location: Littlehampton with potential for some home working.
IR35: Inside
Pay Rate to Intermediary: Up to £22.14 per hour
Security Clearance: DBS

Spinwell is recruiting for an Environmental Health Officer for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER

To assist the Private Sector Housing and Public Health Team in protecting and improving our community’s health and environment.

To assess and process applications for Disabled Facilities and discretionary grants and where necessary monitor adaptation works to enable disabled residents to remain living independently in their homes. The post hold will work closely with residents, their families and carers, contractors, agents, landlords, the fire and rescue service and other Council Departments to assess applications, manage projects, and ensure the effective delivery of the service. 

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL HEALTH OFFICER

  • Graduate with a Degree in Construction or a closely related subject OR ONC/HNC in Construction or equivalent with 3 years experience in a similar post.
  • Experience in customer facing role, ideally in housing, health or social care setting
  • Prepared schedule of works, liaised with architects, landlords and others as appropriate.
  • Experience in analysing returned tenders for works, respond to technical queries, ensure adherence to specifications and inspect works carried out before authorising payments.
  • The ability to interpret legislation, Council and national policy and procedures independently in relation to the delivery of financial assistance
  • Understanding of Building Regulations and planning Permission about the construction or conversion of properties in relation to home adaptations.
  • Accountability: Acknowledges mistakes with patience and understanding and offers support to rectify the situation, putting in place measures to prevent future errors.

  • Critical thinking: Able to consider different perspectives, and Council needs and procedures in balance when making decisions and solving problems.
  • Customer focus: Able to gain insight into customer needs to build and deliver solutions that meet expectations and maintain effective relationships.
  • Decision making: Encourages and coaches staff to make decisions in order to meet customer and service delivery expectations
  • Industry Knowledge: Actively seeks out best practise and CPD to understand current issues related to the department, sector and profession to make informed decisions.
