Spinwell is recruiting for an Operations Manager for an excellent opportunity within the public sector.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES OF THE OPERATIONS MANAGER

  • Develop and implement an acquisition strategy aligned with Category A Approval requirements.
  • Coordinate with stakeholders to define project objectives, scope, and deliverables.
  • Oversee the planning and execution of tactical development firing trials, ensuring safety and compliance.
  • Manage the procurement of equipment and services required for the project.
  • Monitor and control project budgets, ensuring financial accountability and cost efficiency.
  • Develop and maintain detailed project schedules and timelines.
  • Collaborate with logistics teams to ensure the timely delivery of equipment and resources.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant regulations, policies, and safety standards.
  • Conduct risk assessments and implement mitigation strategies.
  • Manage contracts with suppliers, ensuring adherence to terms and performance standards.
  • Facilitate communication between internal and external stakeholders.
  • Oversee the preparation and submission of documentation for Category A Approval.
  • Monitor and report on project progress to senior management and stakeholders.
  • Address and resolve any issues or delays impacting project timelines.
  • Ensure quality assurance and control measures are in place for all deliverables.
  • Support the development of training and operational procedures for end-users.
  • Manage and track key performance indicators (KPIs) for the project.
  • Coordinate with legal and procurement teams to ensure contract compliance.
  • Oversee the integration of new systems or equipment into existing infrastructure.
  • Conduct post-trial evaluations and implement lessons learned for future projects.

SKILLS/EXPERIENCE OF THE OPERATIONS MANAGER

  • Proven experience in operations management within a complex engineering, defence, or maritime environment.
  • Strong understanding of in-service support activities, with the ability to provide technical support and work closely with specialist engineering teams.
  • Experience managing contracts, monitoring performance against milestones, and ensuring compliance with required standards and service delivery requirements.
  • Knowledge of stock control, asset management, service surveillance, and through-life support principles.
  • Ability to quickly understand operational requirements and become effective in a fast-paced environment with minimal supervision.
  • Experience supporting senior operational stakeholders and coordinating activities across multiple teams.
  • Familiarity with the support and management of complex weapons systems or similarly safety-critical equipment would be highly advantageous.
  • Defence background preferred, ideally at a level equivalent to MOD STS1 (Professional 2) or similar.
  • Particularly suited to candidates with Royal Navy submarine experience, including former engineering personnel, engineering managers, or Class 1 Officers, who can demonstrate a strong understanding of operational and engineering support functions.
  • Excellent organisational, communication, and stakeholder management skills, with the ability to balance business-as-usual activities alongside technical and operational support responsibilities.

Desirable

  • Experience working on Category A defence contracts.
  • Previous experience within an operations or support management role focused on in-service capability and availability.
